Evolution might happen on a small scale, but it can't account for all of the species we see.
Given that genetic variation and natural selection are well-confirmed facts, to argue that change can happen on a small scale but not on a large scale is like granting that that I can walk at a rate of 1 foot every hour, and then arguing that I could never go a mile at that rate. If you admit that natural selection is a mechanism for change over time (however slow), given enough time, there will be big changes.
