Evolution cannot explain how life first appeared on Earth.
Very true. As a theory, it is not formulated to do so. Evolution Theory accounts for how speciation and change have occurred over time; as such, it is not a theory about the transition from chemistry to biology. Of course, biochemists (not evolutionary biologists) have shown in the laboratory that, given the composition of the atmosphere and oceans of the early Earth, and the energy available, amino acids form naturally. Since amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, which are the building blocks of DNA and everything else, it is not inconceivable to think that the formation of those from amino acids could also have happened. Funny that no one is attacking Biochemistry on the basis of the fact that it hasn't shown that step in the lab yet.
